Is today your first day? Fortune Gems looks like one of the simplest slots around: just three reels, three rows, and a separate reel on the right where only multiplier numbers spin. Because it looks simple, beginners often start spinning straight away without reading the rules. What will you see on screen when you open Fortune Gems?

When the game opens, just look for a few seconds and don't tap anything. On the left or in the middle is a 3×3 box: three reels and three rows, nine symbols in total. The symbols include colourful gems and card letters, plus a special wild symbol. What each symbol looks like and how much it pays is shown with pictures on the paytable.

Fourth reel (multiplier reel): a narrow reel to the right of the main box. It has no gems or letters, only multiplier numbers. This is the game's real feature, explained separately below.
Balance: your current money, shown small near the bottom.
Bet: the plus and minus buttons change the cost of each spin.
Spin button: the big round button. One press spins all four reels together.
Extra Bet button: a separate switch or button that raises the cost of each spin when turned on. On day one, check first of all that it's off.
Auto, turbo and menu: auto runs spins back to back, turbo makes the reels stop faster, and the menu holds the paytable and rules.

Before your first spin: a step-by-step checklist for beginners

Check that Extra Bet is off. When it's on, each spin costs more at the same bet. For beginners it's simpler to keep it off.
Open the paytable from the menu. How much each gem pays, what the wild looks like, which way the paylines run and which multipliers can appear on the fourth reel: it's all there. If you want to know the RTP or maximum win, check the game's help/paytable too. This page does not guess any number.
Lower the bet to the minimum. Press minus as far as it goes. Whatever bet limits the lobby and the game show are final.
Keep auto spin off. On day one, press every spin by hand and look at all four reels each time.

How do you win in Fortune Gems?

This game has five fixed paylines that are always active: three horizontal rows (top, middle and bottom) and two diagonal lines (from one corner to the opposite corner). If three identical symbols land from left to right on any one line, that line wins. If several lines win at once, all the wins are added together.

The wild symbol stands in for other regular symbols to help complete a line. For example, two green gems and one wild on a line may count like three green gems. Check the paytable for exactly how it's counted.

A common beginner mistake is thinking that lots of colourful gems on the reels means a win. In fact, nothing pays unless the symbols land in a row on one of those five lines. So after a spin, first look for whether a line has lit up. When there's a win, the game usually highlights that line and shows the amount in the win box. For your first few spins, trace the highlighted line with your finger: which box it started from and which way it went. After watching this a few times, the five lines will stick in your mind, and you won't need to ask anyone later.

How do the multiplier reel on the right and Extra Bet work?

The fourth reel spins with the main reels on every spin and shows a few multiplier numbers. Only the number that stops in the middle box counts. If any line wins on the main box, the total win is multiplied by that number. But if no line wins, nothing pays even if a big number stops on the fourth reel. This reel never pays on its own.

Turning on Extra Bet costs extra on every spin. In return, the game's rules say the smallest multiplier is removed from the fourth reel and the chance of bigger multipliers goes up. Check the game's help for how much extra it costs. Remember, this doesn't guarantee a win; it only makes each spin more expensive. Keep it off on day one.

Does Fortune Gems have free spins or a bonus round?

The original Fortune Gems has no separate free spins or scatter bonus round. The whole game is about the main reels and the fourth reel. So if someone says "spin this many times and a bonus will unlock", that's not true. Other versions may have different features; check that game's own help.

How do you start with a small balance?
